2Week 6 - Final ProjectFinal Action Research ProposalI am currently a North Carolina Preschool Teacher in a public-school elementary setting. My assistant and I are responsible for eighteen children who range in age from four to five years old. We teach in an inclusive classroom setting with four of the children receiving speech and language and two who are considered high on the Autism Spectrum. The two suspected of having Autism are very high functioning. One is sensitive to loud noises and the other who just came to us last week, we are not sure of his sensitivities yet. He is still being observed and waiting to be tested. The children have formed relationships with each other and some have specific peers they prefer to play with.The purpose of this study is to find different strategies that teach children positive social skills and positive communication skills to pre-school aged children. There are children as youngas four and five years of age being suspended from school or limited to the time, they can be at school due their behavior. Through this study our goal is to give teachers other alternatives that may decrease negative behavior and increase positive behavior through peer guidance, modeling,and classroom management. Through this study, the teacher will learn how to teach children proper social skills such as caring, sharing, listening, and respecting others.Every year when we begin the new school year the children usually have poor social skills when it comes to getting along and showing respect for each other. I know this is normal for the beginning of the year because some are new to the educational setting outside of home. Some have never even been in a childcare setting of any kind; they are coming straight from home. A few are the only child in the home and some have younger or older siblings. Trends in my educational setting says that this sometimes leads to bullying or being bullied. I believe early prevention will help.
3Week 6 - Final ProjectThe children have begun to form bonds with specific friends which is normal and accepting except some of them do not want to share their friends with their peers. Because of this, we spend a lot of time re-directing and intervening negative behavior. Some of the children show signs of the ability to be great leaders. They also show signs of being leaders who are inconsiderate of being team players. Everything has to be their way or no way. They refuse to include some of their peers during play. Our desire is for them to develop their individualized personalities with regards to understanding that the world they live in requires for them to work with others outside of their choosing.
