RESTRICTED BATTLE OF BULGE 1. When the Allies landed at Normandy on June 6, 1944, the Germans were dealt a psychological blow. Previously, they had been virtually invincible in Western Europe, and then, with little loss of life, the Allies had successfully landed a massive force of sixteen divisions in only five days. 2. If that weren't bad enough, the Allies then began their own blitzkrieg. Paris, Brussels, and Tournai were liberated by September. However, this advance was soon to be halted and turned for the worse. German forces had stopped the Allied advance at the Siegfried Line. The German plan for pushing back the Allies was to take Antwerp, and its harbors, and cut off Allied troops in Belgium and Holland and make it impossible for them to withdraw. To further this end, specially trained German soldiers that could speak English were put into American uniforms and snuck across Allied lines were they were to create confusion. 3. On December 16, 1944, the German army launched its last great counter offensive. This battle was to be Hitler's last stand and break apart the allied alliance.
