Richard Krishnan Engl1A, Sec 4 Due: September 11, 2007 “The Way To Rainy Mountain” Summary and Response 1. Write an essay describing a grandparent or any other older person who has had a great influence on you. Make sure you include background information as well as a detailed physical description. 2. Describe a place that has played an important part in your life. Include a narrative passage conveying to your readers the place’s significance. 3. Describe a ritual – such as a wedding or a confirmation – you have witness or participated in. N. Scott Momaday wrote the book “The Way to Rainy Mountain” to retell Kiowa legends and folktales. In the introduction of this book is predominantly about his grandmother, but also about his culture. He tells of their struggle to survive until the end of the 19 th century. The timeframe is kept in comparison to the lifespan of the grandmother. The Sun Dance doll was acquired during their massive migration and became the cornerstone of their believe system. I have not had the privilege of knowing any of my grandparents growing up.
