Brianna Ramson Honors British Literature 1:16 Lady Macbeth pauses in the corridor before entering Macbeth’s bed- room. Her face looks ten years older this morning. The dark circles around her eyes contrast the pallor of her skin. Images of a murdered king and her husband’s friend Banquo weaved through the dark shadows of the night. Fear for her husband’s sanity and her own haunt her waking hours. The chill in the drafty corridor does nothing to steel her nerves, but she must check to make sure Macbeth is calm and in control of his faculties after he terrified the courtiers at his coronation dinner. Entering Macbeth’s bedroom, Lady Macbeth spies her husband sitting in his chair, staring at the fire. His cloak of red and gold is draped across the back of the chair. Lady Macbeth waves away the servant who is hovering be- hind the king. As the servant departs, Lady Macbeth address her husband. “Sire, are you feeling well today. The funeral starts shortly.” Macbeth slowly turns to look at his wife. His eyes appear unfocused
