If a violation occurs for a credentialed professional of AHIMA standards repercussions can lead to jail time or fines. The reason being AHIMA sets standards to comply with HIPAA laws and regulations. AHIMA can also revoke your credentials which will lead to the loss of your career and future job opportunities if the future presents those opportunities.
