THE ROLE OF THE GOVERNMENT IN PUBLIC HEALTH The profession of health care and the quality of care associated with it has faced numerous challenges over the years and has changed significantly along with the definition of quality of care. Amongst the many fields of medicine, private medicine and public health face their own hurdles. Numerous viewpoints that can contribute to contradictory opinions and practice of medicine. Year after year, the medical field combats particular challenges and medical errors are continuing to be at the top of the list. More government intervention is required to face these challenges effectively and find solutions to maintain patient safety and protect health care. There is also an immeasurable hurdle of needing to raise the car when it comes to health care’s accessibility, cost, and overall quality. Public Health versus Private Medicine Although the public and private health care subdivisions play a detrimental role in meeting the healthcare needs of the general population, their association is argumentative because their approach is very different and their objectives are based on different fundamentals, yet they are working towards the same goal. The public health programs mainly target patients’ needs to afford the healthcare services and to meet the medical requirements of patients, whereas the private medical care also gives higher priority to patient's comfort, which causes a rise in the medical expenses. Overall, it has been determined the quality of care provided by private medicine and public health differs; however, the definition of quality of care is essential to regulate which division is providing the finest services. It is found that many public health professionals pursue the most effective method of treatment for a greater population using the least amount of resources. “A private physician, as we perceive him or her, serves an individual patient and owes through tradition and law his greatest duty to the individual patient he/she is treating. A public health doctor may never treat 2
