CSCI 100 Survey of Computing HYBRID 1 CSCI 100 Survey of Computing Description: General Survey of the capabilities, limitations and problems associated with computers; basic terminology of computer systems; systems analysis and design; characteristics of hardware and software; data representation and organization; introduction to programming and problem solving. The browser Canvas developers recommend is Chrome , but Firefox and Safari work equally well. You should avoid using Internet Explorer and Microsoft Edge as they tend to cause the most problems with Canvas. CANVAS Navigation The class is structured in MODULES, and some modules will not open until previous modules have been completed (i.e. you are required complete and pass the “Take the Ethics Quiz, Set up Quiz and Initial Setup- Screen Shots Assignment) What should I do first? Once you're ready, click on the Modules from the vertical course navigation tool bar to your left and check out all of items in Let's Get Started & Syllabus Overview Once you begin a module, you will see a set of buttons on the bottom of each page. These buttons will take you to the next or previous section. NOTE : If you’re navigating this course by using the To Do list, or the Calendar, you will miss the bulk of the necessary content for this class. You should begin each day in Canvas by going through the weeks modules. Again, if you use the To Do list to complete this course, you will not have all of the information you need to get the best grade possible.
CSCI 100 Survey of Computing HYBRID 2 Assignments, Tests and discussion forums will need to be completed by 11pm Sunday of each week READING - The textbook IS REQUIRED for this class. The textbook we use is through the zyBooks reading system. The textbook access code is available through the Highline College library. Your readings each week are worth 10pts. ISBN# : 978-1-394-00018-0 Weekly Videos Weekly Video will be made available each week and will be available via Canvas. Links will be provided in each module. Weekly Quizzes - You must complete the test prior to week closing Sunday at 11pm - You are required to complete the test in one sitting. - I suggest you use Google Chrome when taking the tests, also DO NOT press the browser BACK button. Discussion Boards Discussion boards give you the opportunity to share your thoughts, research, and professional opinion about the weeks’ topic. You are expected to be courteous and respectful to your classmates. Consider how you would contribute to a topic, or respond to a classmate face-to-face when you post. Initial posts are usually (unless otherwise instructed) due by Wednesday at midnight, and responses are due by Sunday at midnight of that week. Always read the discussion description, and instructions at the bottom before posting.
