What is the meaning of “normal”? Equus is a drama movie directed by Sidney Lumet and based on the play by Peter Shaffer. The main plot tells about Martin Dysart, who is a psychiatrist in a mental hospital and works with disturbed teenagers. Alan Strang is a 17-year-old stable boy who blinded six horses with a spike, and doctor Dysart started working on him. Throughout their conversations doctor Dysart gets to know that Dora, Alan's mother, is a very religious woman who tried to make Alan as spiritual as she is. It turned out in Alan imagining his own God, Equus, which in Latin means horse. Finally, Martin Dysart treated Alan and made him normal, but he does not feel good about it as he deprived Alan of his passion. This movie was extremely hard to watch, and it made me think of what is considered normal in our modern world, which I will try to go through in this essay. Firstly, I would like to talk about Alan's relations with his parents. As we can see from the movie, Alan's mother appears to be very religious. Moreover, she tries to make her family as spirituous as she is. It turns out that Frank, her husband, thinks that the reason that their son has
