Week 8 Summary- Stephen Elop’s email to employees On July 14th2014, Stephen Elop emailed employees. The aim of the email was to inform the employees on the company’s intention to reduce the size of workers for its phone products. The email is written indirectly to convey bad news to the employers. Initially, the email establishes the goal of the company which is to help its respective customers to “do more”. This gives a good impression and motivation to the customers as they are guaranteed quality products and services. Consequently, the email states that the company focuses of consolidating Smart devicesand mobile phone units. In doing so, the message is received positively by employees, gaining the acceptance rate and at the same time maintaining a goodwill. Stephen Elop wrote bad message by first taking the emotional intelligence into consideration. In doing so, he established a common ground with the employees the company is trying to address.
