The 27 New Testament Books Decree
The early church experienced divergent opinions regarding which books could be
included in the New Testament. The differences in opinions almost brought division into the
early church. The Bishop of Alexandria by the name Athanasius saw the problem and addressed
it on 7
th
of January A.D 367 in his annual Easter letters to the churches that he served
(Redford
23)
. He decreed the 27 New Testament Books in his recommendation which are currently found
in the Bible.
The Techniques in the Gospel of Thomas
Thomas took a different approach from the gospels in the New Testament. He provided a
prologue of the sayings of Jesus. He did not give accounts of birth, miracles performed as well
the death and resurrection of Jesus (Redford 54). His techniques were majorly quoting the words
of Jesus embedded on parables and dialogues.
