REACTION PAPER 2 Reaction Paper a Class Divided Racism and discrimination in institutions and organizations have become one of the major problems that have affected their progress. Racism is defined as prejudice against a person of a different race on the ground that one’s own race is superior. On the other hand, discrimination is the unfair treatment of a certain group of individuals based on sex, age and race. There is the need for these matters to be comprehensively and candidly be discussed and find out the solution to them. People should have the power to understand the difference between one individual to the other and co-exist. Before addressing these issues there is a need to understand the secondary diversity which in this case is appearance, social class and communication. Racism in the workplace and in institutions is responsible for constant changes in moods, weird behavior, loneliness, discomfort and overall bad feelings to the affected people. Diversity training for students and workers can help restrain the problem significantly. Additionally, I felt sad, nervous, annoyed and disappointed in young students who treated other students by how they look instead of what they do. It was quite unfortunate that a certain boy was being called by his fellow pupil by the color of his eyes, in this case, he was referred to as “brown eyed”. I came to realize that it is difficult for a professor to enter into a classroom and teach the students about diversity or multicultural because they become fearful and anxious to discuss sexism, oppression, racism and cultural differences that exist in our society and workplaces. It is evident that there is nothing the professors can do to help one to feel more comfortable emotionally when talking about sexism, oppression and racism. It is challenging and the reality is that people have to deal with the reality of racism on a daily basis. After the assassination of the prominent leader of civil
