Abstract
In any organization, human resources are considered to be one of the most vital assets,

system of management has gained a lot of attention compared to service organizations and
manufacturing organizations. From the human resource management perspective,
professionalism is the practice of certain skills and expertise based on a defined knowledge body
pursuant to recognized standards of behavior which entitles the practice to be regarded as a

for any business. The respective managers of organization have a vital responsibility of
motivating the employees in the attainment of the organization objectives, missions and goals. In
a bid to enhance the employee productivity in organizations effectively, there should be
professionalism in the organization and more specifically at workplaces (Füller et al., 2017).
Professionalism is described as the act of a professional showing utmost competence and skills in
his work (Geraint, 2017).
There is a positive correlation between professionalism and employee
productivity in that an increase in professionalism results into an increase in employee
productivity. Employee productivity consequently results into an increase in the overall increase
in the organization productivity and performance. Professionalism among the employees can be
enhanced through; competency where employees become reliable by standing up to tough
circumstances; integrity by being trustworthy, doing what is right and keeping promises; self-
accountability and regulation where employees become accountable to themselves for their
actions and projects they work for (Bruce & Ahmed, 2014). Therefore, this paper is a research
proposal that looks at the role of professionalism among the employees in enhancing the
productivity of Non-Governmental Organizations.
