Durkheim’s Theories of SuicideEmile Durkheim was a very famous sociologist based in France and is the authorof a publication namedSuicide. He first started this subject of study when he noticedthat there was a difference in suicide rates between Protestants and Catholics thereforeestablishing that religion has an impact on the rate of suicide. He acquired this to besince in the Protestant religion there isn’t encouragement to attend church or the placeof social gatherings whereas Catholics are quite the opposite and get plenty of socialstimulation. This led to Durkheim establishing different theories of committing suicideinto two different factors; social integration and social regulation. Social integrationincludes egoistic and altruistic types of suicide. Social regulation includes anomic andfatalistic types of suicide. Egoistic is the form of suicide due to extreme loneliness andlack of social stimulation. People that commit suicide in this form usually don’t have very
