Erikson’s Stages of Psychosocial DevelopmentGioia Kunst
InfancyTrust vs. MistrustGood PointsInfants are able to build a special bond with their caregivers/parents.They can recognize who is trustworthy and who is a stranger.Bad PointsInfants could become introverted for they only trust and feel comfortable around certain people. They could have a difficult time with playing and making friends with other children.Interesting PointsI find it really interesting that babies can form these intimately trusting relationships with their caregivers, despite how much they still can’t understand are do.My mom tells me that I was quite comfortable and trusting as a baby. I easily bonded with other people.
ToddlerAutonomy vs. Shame and DoubtGood PointsToddlers are able to build their own self-esteem while becoming more independent. They start to learn simple yet important skills, such as holding and drinking from their own cup.Bad PointsIf the toddler believes that they aren’t learning simple tasks as fast as other toddlers, they might feel ashamed.Interesting PointsI find it interesting that toddlers in this stage can learn to be more independent, like eating with their own fork and getting dressed by themselves.
