Tyrus Stephens Ms. Takaki English 16 September 2019 A Midsummer Night's Dream Essay In Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream the most important theme is love. Love is presented in many different ways, but the recurring theme is just how flawed love can be. Love causes the characters to do and say irrational and sometimes foolish things. This is because love can be very flawed. Shakespear’s wants us to remember that love isn’t perfect because being “in love” can lead to chaos and misery. Jealousy is the most common flaw of being in love. When the characters experience thoughts of insecurity, anger and resentment, this makes them act irrationally by doing something they normally would not have done if they weren’t in love. The complicated love triangle of Hermia, Lysander, Demetruis, and Helena is a perfect example of how much jealousy can make you do crazy things in the name of love. For starters, Helena loves Demetruis, but those feelings are not returned because he loves Hermia instead. This makes Helena resentful
