Dearth 1Reilley DearthBen HunterWriting 1214 June 2018Reflection LetterDear Reader,My Writing 121 portfolio contains a reflective letter, two on-demand essays, an annotatedbibliography, a before and after survey, a formative rubric with comments from my instructor, and my final essay. My first on-demand essay was written on work, career, and social mobility, while the second on-demand essay was written on social media and political dissent. My final essay’s topic focused how social media is convenient and advantageous, but is dangerous because it is insidiously addictive. When I first started this class, I was flooded by different emotions. I was a mix of excited, nervous, anxious, and scared. This was likely because I was a sophomore in one of my first college class and I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. After I saw who was in the class and noticed that many of my fellow classmates were friends of mine who had already passed Writing 121 and was now taking Writing 122, I relaxed a little bit. My instructor, Mr. Hunter, pulled me aside after class and told me that there hasn’t been a single sophomore in our school that has everpassed Writing 121 and got college credit. He asked if I was sure I still wanted to take the class and that if I decided not to, then I would not be judged. However, I felt confident in my ability tolearn how to effectively write a college essay and I decided to continue to take the class, and be the first sophomore to get the college credit.
