1 Kaylyn Jordaan Holistic Education ED 456 Professor: Younghee Kim January 23, 2020 Autobiography John Locke, some very old philosopher describes a person as “ a thinking, intelligent being, that has reason and reflection, and can consider itself as itself, the same thinking thing, in different times and places”. I picked up this quote a few years back during the start of my academia in order to look smart in front of anyone who entered my dorm room and intrinsically taped it to my mirror. Yet, for some reason it always stuck with me - the concept that I, an ordinary, not so perfect, human was an intelligent being who has the ability to reflect throughout my life. It’s a simple concept, I’m sure of that, but, there is so much to uncover in this concept and for some reason I hadn’t done so until recently. Who am I and why am I the way I am. Simple psychology would state that a combination of nature and nurture developed my behavior and thus shaped me into the person I am. It’ll look at my genetic inheritance and compare it with the external factors that influenced my life. I suppose psychologists could argue that I picked up my appreciation for philosophy and psychology from my maternal Oupa (grandfather). But, I never much cared to listen to him and
