Enterprise Architecture Research Paper IFSM 311 Enterprise Architecture Enterprise Architecture Framework Research Paper 12/01/19 Introduction 1
Enterprise Architecture Research Paper The Open Group Architecture framework (TOGAF) is a set of methods and tools for developing a broad range of different IT architectures. TOGAF helps an organization to design, evaluate, and build the right architecture for their organization with fewer errors while staying on budget. It (TOGAF) offers high-level framework for software development. “The Open Group developed TOGAF in 1995, and in 2016, 80 percent of Global 50 companies and 60 percent of Fortune 500 companies used the framework (White, 2018)”. TOGAF is free for organizations to use internally, but not for commercial purposes. IT is much different from other architecture frameworks such as Zachman because it is lot more process driven and gives an organization a way to codify architectural patterns. It is more focus on the business. It helps businesses define and organize requirements before a project starts, keeping the process moving quickly with few errors. It puts much more pressure on the actual information, its access, presentation, and quality, so that it can provide not only transaction processing support, but also analytical processing support for critical business decisions (Course Resource, 2019). In short, TOGAF framework can help an organization to achieve what they want to do as a business. Purpose The main purpose of TOGAF is align IT goals with overall business goals of an organization, while helping to organize cross-departmental IT efforts. The focus of this framework is to help users to implement and gain the benefits of genuinely open systems solutions at lower cost. It explains the related processes of open systems design, planning, product procurement, and implementation in a very simple way. In particular, this framework increasingly represents the core intellectual property of an organization. Scope The Scope is an opportunity or possibility to do or deal with something. The scope of TOGAF is to provide an overarching vision and capability with organization goal and strategies. In the initial phase TOGAF provides a structured approach to how an organization define the problem space that businesses are facing, then define the solution space, and define how to move from where the organization is right now, to where it want to be in the future. It helps to prepare the blue print of the whole project with all the difficulties with the real scenarios of the project.
