The invention of machines to do work in factories meant that more product could be produced at a faster rate. This caused existing industries to expand and many new ones started that included petroleum refining, steel manufacturing became more efficient, and electrical power emerged. Inventors also invented many new products that began being manufactured and sold. This included typewriters, barbed wire, the telephone, the phonograph, the electric light and cars (The USAonline.com, n.d.). The use of the abundant amount of natural resources for building and creating energy increased.
