1. Discuss the explosive economic, territorial, and scientific growth and reform that occurred in post-Civil War America. How did the growth contribute to the development of the United States as the leading industrial economy in the world by 1890? Your response must be at least 200 words in length In the years after the Civil War the United States grew to be an industrial giant. The invention of machines to do work in factories meant that more product could be produced at a faster rate. This caused existing industries to expand and many new ones started that included petroleum refining, steel manufacturing became more efficient, and electrical power emerged. Inventors also invented many new products that began being manufactured and sold. This included typewriters, barbed wire, the telephone, the phonograph, the electric light and cars (The USAonline.com, n.d.). The use of the abundant amount of natural resources for building and creating energy increased.
