Feminist Criminology and Peacemaking Criminology 2Liberal Feminists believe that the main causes of gender inequality are ignorance and socialization (Revise Sociology, 2017). They do not believe that social institutions are inherentlypatriarchal. They believe in a“March of Progress” view of gender relations (Revise Sociology, 2017). This means that they believe that men and women are gradually becoming more equal over time and that this trend will continue (Revise Sociology, 2017). Liberal Feminists also believes that there should be some sort of equal rights between men and women. This theory came about in criminology through the works of Freda Adler a criminologist and educator, alongwith Rita Simon. Liberal feminist believes when it comes down to careers, political seats etc. women are discriminated against. Adler and Simon also challenged sexist remarks made by Lombrosian as it pertains to the female criminal (Revise Sociology, 2017). Adler and Simon challenged its sociological factors that best describe women criminality, not physiology. The two scholars also proposed that as educational and occupational doors are opened for women there will be an increase in female crime. (Revise Sociology, 2017). Adler stated that as female crimeincreases over time females will start to engage in “male traditional crimes”, crimes full of aggression and violence (Revise Sociology, 2017). Unlike Adler, Simon feels that increases in women’s crime would come in the crimes traditionally committed by women, prostitution, writing bad checks (Revise Sociology, 2017). Marxist Feminists argue the main cause of women’s oppression is capitalism (Revise Sociology, 2017). The disadvantaged position of women is seen to be a consequence of the emergence of private property and their lack of ownership of the means of production Marxist Feminists argue the main cause of women’s oppression is capitalism (Revise Sociology, 2017).
