Poem The sentence “Don’t ask Don’t tell” it shows how the slave is saying don’t ask me that why I am in this state and don't tell me what is happening to me. It also shows an idea about social justice, by showing a call for equality, peace, hope and independence from all the slaves. In the first stanza, it is a symbol of how the masters thought of the enslaved; useless and helpless, like their lives aren’t worth anything. In the second stanza, it shows how cruel the masters were to the slaves and how they lived in darkness with no light but a hope that life will get better in the sentence
