Topic 3 DQ 2Discuss the difference between a DNP and a PhD in nursing. Discuss which of these you would choose to pursue if you decide to continue your education to the doctoral level and explain why.DNP is Doctor of Nursing Practice; whereas PhD is Doctor of Philosophy. Both these areas focus on research. “In a PhD program, nurses learn to conduct original research to add to the body of academic theory and nursing knowledge. On the other hand, the DNP was developed for practice-focused leaders, as nurses in this program learn to apply current research to practice or system challenges to achieve a positive impact” (Grand Canyon University (GCU), 2019). DNP programs are aimed at direct patient care unlike the PhD. DNP programs are more of hands on based knowledge and learning along with acquiring skills to evaluate practices and organization leadership to improve nursing practice. DNP’s acquire an in depth knowledge of applications and learning. PhD leads to carriers that are focused on research only and do not involve direct patient care.
