The Germans used deception in many successful ways before their invasion of the USSR. While Joseph Stalin had many opportunities to access the German invasion much better, Adolf Hitler and the German Generals used deception as a perfect tool for hiding their goal to overthrow the Communist USSR. As more and more German soldiers became obvious on the eastern front of Europe, they used the war with Great Britain to undermine Stalin. “The Germans explained away the presence of their forces along the border with the USSR as training for an invasion of Britain that was being conducted outside the range of the Royal Air Force”. [1] The Germans also used Propaganda as deception. This airstrike on Crete was a way for them to use for practice for an invasion of Great Britain. Stalin was very much to blame for this. He was blind to the intelligence that was giving to him. Refusing the warnings and intel, believing that Germany would not enter a war with them while fighting the Brits.
