TRADITIONAL CHINESE MEDICINE2Traditional Chinese MedicineTraditional Chinese medicine or TCM is one of the most ancient, historical and established medicinal systems in the world. The therapeutic formulae used in TCM are often derived from water decoctions of one or more herbs to create complex formulae (Yan et al., 2019Jul–Sep). There are aspects of plant cultivation and preparation of decoction pieces that are unique specifically to TCM, one in particular, the cultivation of Daodi, which is associated with high quality medicinal plant material that is grown in a defined geographical area (Zhao, Guo, & Brand, 2012). The specific process used is call Paozhi processing, which requires the decoction to be treated with excipients to change the very nature of the chemicals for maximum medicinal use.
