Professor Siu | COURSE:
A Poem so that the Weight of this Country does not Crush You by Yosimar Reyes
.
A)
The poem is about the author writing to his community who feel sad, frustrated, tired and
often wondering if what they do is worth it in the first place, every time they wake up in the
morning. This is illustrated clearly from line 1 to line 4 in stanza one.
Sometimes the author
questions their own growth with the thought of the world being this massive space but they
still stay in a country where they feel imprisoned. They cannot take the insults and the abuses
hurled at their community anymore, he longs for a place that peaceful and is loving where
they can just sit and clear their minds, away from all the trouble even if it’s just for a day.
He stands in as their leader for advocating for their rights in this foreign country and keeps
on fighting and reminding them of the fight ahead of them and never to forget who they are.
