Netflix Company Profile.
Netflix, Inc. is a world-leading media services provider plus production services that
offer entertainment services by use of the internet. The name Netflix is a combination of two
prefixes Net meaning the internet and flix a slang word for films.
According to the company
website, Netflix was founded in the year 1997 by Reed Hastings and software executive Marc
Randolph with the sole purpose of renting out movies online. The headquarters of Netflix is
located in Los Gatos, California, USA.
Netflix’s area of operation is divided into three major divisions: the international
streaming option, the domestic streaming option, and the domestic DVD rental option. The
domestic DVD rental option is in the mother country the USA. Products offered by the company
include television series, documentaries plus independent films. This is offered in many different
languages across the world and also in different genres.
Initially, the company used to offer DVD rentals and sales through its site, Netflix.com.
This was escalated to monthly subscriptions where individuals could rent as many movies as
possible on one monthly price. With improved technology and most people having access to
smart devices the company developed a streaming service where instead of now shipping the
movies, one can stream as many movies as possible on one monthly price.
Netflix has grown to become the world’s leading entertainment services provider over the
