Someone truly passionate about their profession is never difficult to spot. Although I do not agree with all of Bernard Goldberg’s opinions about the media it would be difficult for me to argue that he lacks passion for journalism. In Bias: A CBS Insider Exposes How the Media Distort the News , Bernard Goldberg does more than just identify the bias that exists in the media and delves deeper in to why the broadcast stations like CBS continuously distribute news with a liberal slant. Ultimately Goldberg resolves that the “media elites” have been surrounded by liberal opinions for so long that they are unaware of the bias that is occurring. A CBS reporter for 28 years, Goldberg discusses his frustration with media bias. Goldberg first publicized his opinions about the media bias in an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal while he was still working for CBS. This was clearly not an act of loyalty but Goldberg defends voicing his opinions on bias by saying that he tried to bring the issue up within CBS and was rejected. Goldberg also points the blame right back at CBS by arguing that they are quick to pick up stories that expose other industries just not their own. While the issue of media bias is a very serious one there seems to be some underlying feuds between CBS (especially Dan Rather) and Mr. Goldberg that often distracted me from the more important issue of bias.
