ORGANIC CHEMISTRY 308 V1,V2 SUMMER 2009 Lecturer: Prof. John W. Taylor E-mail : taylor@rutchem.rutgers.edu (you must use "308" in the subject heading) Office : Wright-Rieman Chemistry Bldg (WRC), room 278, Busch Campus. Office Hours: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3-4 pm, SEC 117. Reviews are also at these times. General: Text Book : Vollhardt & Schore, "Organic Chemistry: Structure and Function", 5th edition (required), Study Guide (optional, but recommended) and molecular models (optional). Lectures : MTWThF, SEC 117, 1:40 pm – 3:00 pm Exams: General : All exams and quizzes are closed book , and students are not allowed to share information in any way. The use of calculators and cell phones is not allowed at any time during exams and quizzes. Molecular models may be used but not shared. Photo IDs are required for all exams and will be checked individually in every exam. Midterm exams : Midterm exams will be given on Thursday , June 18, Thursday, June 25 , and Tuesday , July 14 , during the normally scheduled class time, starting at 1:40 pm. These exams will be 70 min. in duration, and will consist of five multiple-choice questions and 10-15 questions requiring short written answers, possibly including chemical structure drawings, reaction mechanisms and other diagrams, short written explanations, nomenclature or short calculations. These exams will each be worth a maximum of 50 points, with each question worth 2-4 points, as indicated on the exam. Partial credit may be given for some responses. Final Exam
