M ODERATOR G UIDELINES Dr. Teeanna Rizkallah BUAD 501 Purpose Being able to get people to talk is a highly valued skill in business. Smart managers are able to listen well and to motivate subordinates to voice important suggestions for improvement. They know how to nurture a positive team spirit and capitalize on each participant’s strengths. Student Outcomes For each of the 4-5 cases we will be analyzing, we will need moderators (individuals or pairs), who will lead the class in a two-part case discussion , the first week analyzing only the problem , its causes and likely outcomes (“problem moderation”). During the following session, the next set of moderators will focus on guiding the debate about alternatives and on defending the best solution (“solution moderation”). The goal of this case discussion is to help the class think through a complex business problem from various points of view and to prepare all members of the BUAD 501 team for their written case analyses, usually completed in class. The duration of the case discussion may vary
