Caite O'Brien said...    Jane Addams Question #11 Why are the early Christians important to her?    The early Christians are important to Jane Addams because they embody the qualities  that Jane wishes to bring to Hull House. They took the Christ's command to "love all  men" and put it into action by preforming acts of social service. The early Christians are  self-sacraficing in that they give up their luxuries to feed the poor and nurse the sick  even at the risk of getting the plague. This is what Jane Addams does through Hull  House by engaging with the surrounding community. She mentions that the early  Christians were "nonresistant" and took action instead of making enemies out of  difference or preaching to the world. Earlier in the book she critizes those who don't take  action, but instead theorize. Jane Addams sees her work at Hull House as a continuation  of the humanitarian efforts started by the early Christians. She writes about them in a  manner suggesting that they are her heroes and she may at times romaniticize them, but  it still gives us an idea of her influenc es for the founding and work of Hull House.    Possible Question for Exam Take-Home Essay:    How was the women's rights movement affected by the surrounding culture?    February 13, 2009 2:35 PM Marc Lee said...    Question 8 From the Midterm Sheet. What was the significance of the Strike in  Lawrence Mass. in 1910? The significance of this strike was clear example of women  being able to organize a large scale strike and also their ability to strike miltantly. Quickly  activists from all over the country started sending monitary support. These activists  include names like Margaret Sanger and Elizabeth Sanger. These two in addition to  sending support joined the ten thousand women and children in their picketing. The  women formed soup kitchens and childcare centers. So clearly women had the ability to  organize an effective strike. This inspired many other groups and brought much  legitamacy to the womens workers' rights movement. For more on this question page 59  in women in modern america is very helpful and explains the whole ordeal.    Essay: Did settlements like Hull House further the notion that women were meant to  hold a sort of motherly position or did it help bring about suffrage and credibility to the  women's rights movement?

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
