April 15, 2009 ESS 131 “The Will to Win” Questions 1. The article “The Will to Win” is an article dealing with the ways in which the mind controls the body and the ways in which it can affect the performance of athletes in sports, particularly in the sport of motocross. In the article, author Kevin Cameron accounts the ways in which different motocross riders have had success that occurs during the time in which riders believe that they will in fact do well. However, in the times in which they negatively view things or times in which they struggle to believe in themselves, they then in turn end up not doing as well as they had originally hoped for. Cameron talks of the staggering success of riders such as Ricky Carmichael and Troy Bayliss who dominated their specific divisions with ease. Cameron believes that since all of the equipment is mostly on the same level as everyone else than the fact that one rider may have so much success while the others do not has to have some sort of mental capability behind
