Jordan Wertheimer 4.27.09 Theatre App. Group #6 The Music Man The Music Man is a classic musical produced Meridith Willson and directed by Andrew F. Holtz. The play revolves around protagonist of the play, professor Harold Hill (played by Patrick Roberts) The play opens up with a number of businessmen dressed in suits on a train, all discussing about this con artist whom steals loads of money from innocent townspeople. As the rumor is told back and forth, they general idea is that this “con man” tells the town that he will form a band, and once they have paid for all the instruments and uniforms, he splits town before they can realize they have been conned. Harold Hill’s intentions change dramatically when he lets his emotions get in the way of his actions, and almost jeopardizes his life for the newfound love he has found in the small city of River City, Iowa. Through the fantastic acting that was evident for the entirety of the play, to the dramatic set that painted a mental image, with different props and open windows, The Music Man was a phenomenal production that showed how true love could take over the cruel intentions one may possess.
