He also adds the Balkins and North of the Alps (Gaul and Southern Germeny). B. Why/When did Augustus stop seeking to expand the Empire? C. What was the “Principate?” Refers to the era of the first citizen- period when there was an emperor ruling ( describes the first 2 centuries of rule in Rome) Called the Emperial Period D. What was “Romanization?” How might it be achieved/displayed? Inhabitants of a provinces considered themselves Romans: and/or Learned to read/write/speak Latin and/or: Employed roman law in their cities: and or Employed Greco/Roman architecture; and/or Lived a roman-style existence E. How did Romans use cities to speed up the process of Romanization? They took over cities in Africa such as Utica and made it the capital. They built up a lot of roman structures and increases their power Lugdunum (modern Lyon) was another example of a city that Rome took over and built up.
