Carlee Phillips Tuesday and Thursday 11:00 The Life of Michelangelo The life of Michelangelo di Ludovico Buonarroti Simoni began on March 6, 1475 and ended on February 18, 1564. His closest friends called him, “Father and Master of All Arts”. Although he was never married, Michelangelo devoted many of his poems to a woman named, Vittoria Colonna (“Michelangelo”). He excelled in being a painter, sculptor, architect and poet. His two most memorable artworks are Awakening Slave and Separation of Light and Dark. Michelangelo had many accomplishments during his career, especially in sculpting. He was known as one of the finest sculptors in the Western Tradition, some may mean even say the greatest. Michelangelo was known for his Renaissance Age work, he utilized the rules of perspective and illusionism, but willingly departed from exact mechanical precision in order to create desired visual effects. Sculptures can be made from many materials and they must be three dimensional and occupy physical space and they invite us to interact with them. Ways we can
