How to Use Biot-Savart Biot-Savart doesn’t tell us the direction of v B , so we have to figure that out before-hand using the right-hand rule. We can use Biot-Savart for any kind of current distribution. We need to identify current elements v idS that produce d v B fields. We need to figure out the distance v r between the source ( v idS ) and the point at which we calculate the field ( d v B ).
