NATS 104 Human Variation in the Modern World By the End of Week 5 Be able to discuss what it means to be in the Family Hominidae Be able to explain the difference between Hominids and Hominoids. Be able to explain why traits that were DERIVED in Hominoids are PRIMITIVE in  Hominids.  Be able to identify features of the skeleton that indicate bipedal locomotion (the  foramen magnum, femur, pelvis, big toe, etc). Be able to discuss how the skeleton of a biped differs from that of our closest  living relatives, the chimpanzee.  [as well as other types of locomotion from  previous weeks] Be able to discuss key stages in embryonic development What is the difference between a haploid cell and a diploid cell?  What is a  gamete?. ..a zygote? 1. Haploid: only one of each type of chromosome and therefore one  copy  of the human genome.   2. Diploid: two copies of the genome.  3. Zygote: set of homologous chromosomes (diploid), basis of material that
