KNM-WT 17000 (Paranthropus aethiopicus) – Black Skull 1985 – Alan Walker and Richard Leakey W. Turkana (Kenya) Brain – 410 cc mean (Only Humans have cc of over 600) Huge cheek teeth – In forests to eat things like bark, taproots, and seeds (vegetarian) Related to afarensis Robust Hominid (not gracile) Dished face Sagittal crest (runs from front part of skull back towards the back of skull) Extreme facial prognathism Flaring zygomatic arches (For their big muscles) At 2.7 to 2.3 mya it is the earliest ‘robust’ hominid Paranthropus Boisei Olduvai Gorge in Tanzania Mary Leakey 1959 Originally Zinjanthropus Boisei Massive cheek teeth and small anterior teeth Retains U-shaped tooth-row Tall broad dished face Saggital crest Low forehead Longer arms and shorter legs than humans (bipedal) fHeight – Females 4.1ft, Males 4.5 ft Weight – Females 70lb, Males 88lb
