Thomas Ronan Cost Accounting – Burton/ K2 Research Paper Professor Kelly November 3, 2008 The topic of my research project is based on Burton Snowboarding Company. Burton was formulated in 1977 when Jake Burton Carpenter designed a prototype after receiving a Snurfer for Christmas. An entrepreneur with a vision, Jake spent countless hours and built hundreds of snowboards until his design proved reliable and entertaining. In a personal letter addressed to the public based on the reasons for his success, Jake States, “The market was 15- to 17- year-old-boys who were willing to buy the board out of a box and teach themselves to use it. I owe everything to them.” I plan to research multiple areas that would deal with cost accounting. I would like to explore the field of Research & Development and the expansion of the sport. Venturing into the realm of future snowboarding and how the company plans to stay ahead of the game, outranking its competitors that are larger in the sense of company
