EATING DISORDERS Types of Eating Disorders: 1. Anorexia Nervosa 2. Bulimia Nervosa 3. Binge Eating Disorder 4. Pica PICA * Def.: Recurrent, compulsive consumption of non-nutritive items ANOREXIA NERVOSA DSM-IV Criteria: * Weight at least 15% below normal * Intense fear of gaining weight or becoming fat * Disturbance of body perception * Amenorrhea (missed at least 3 consecutive menstrual cycles) * Excessive exercise Types of Anorexia Nervosa: * Restricting Type * Binge-Eating / Purging Type Epidemiology: * Lifetime Prevalence: - 1-2% * Onset: - Usually starts in early teens * Course: - Chronic and progressive without treatment * Gender: - 90% are females
