SEXUAL DISORDERS DSM-IV distinguishes three main categories of Sexual Disorders: 1. GENDER IDENTITY DISORDER * Cross-gender identification and discomfort with one’s own sex 2. SEXUAL DYSFUNCTION * Problems with sexual desire, arousal, orgasm, pain 3. PARAPHILIAS * Sexual attractions to inappropriate people or objects ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 1. GENDER IDENTITY DISORDER * Same as: - Cross-gender Identification - Gender Dysphoria - Transsexualism * Different from: - Homosexuality (= sexual orientation) - Hermaphrodite (= biological ambiguity) - Transvestic Fetishism (= cross dressing for sexual thrill, a paraphilia)
