Essentials of Systems Analysis and Design, 3 rd CH 6 - Pine Valley Case Exercises Solutions a. What entities are identified in the above scenario? Can you think of additional entities? What interrelationships exist between the entities? Mentioned in the scenario are the entities: Customers, (described by CUSTOMER_PROFILE) Orders (or purchases), (described by ORDER), Inventory (or items), (described by INVENTORY), Promotion, (described by PROMOTION). Many of you have identified additional entities, which we determined were parts of the above four. Your conclusion from this should be that entities might be expanded (from parts of entities) or collapsed if more convenient (as attributes of the collapsed entities). Interrelationships observed: closely associated to purchase activity are sales promotions. A customer may respond to zero or more promotions. A promotion is associated with one or more products.
