Spectroscopic Methods for Structure Determination One of the most powerful tools of science today is spectroscopic methods of structure analysis . Many of these methods also are used for chemical analysis to determine the amount and purity of a material. All of these methods depend on the interaction of a molecule with electromagnetic radiation . Molecules absorb radiant energy in very well defined ways that are characteristic of the molecular structure.
