Molecules with More than One Stereocenter Stereocenters Possible Combinations 1 Stereoisomers 2 R S 2 R R R S S S S R 4 A compound with one stereocenter can exist in two stereoisomeric forms (enantiomers) called (R) and (S). If there are two stereocenters , each center may be (R) or (S). The various stereocenter combinations are shown in the table. The maximum number of stereoisomers is 2 n , where n is the number of stereocenters .
