Italy o royal court with Muslims, Jews, & Christians; o picks up structures of Arabic govt to establish first institutional govt in Christian Europe 7. C.1200, to educate govt officials, King Frederic II established University of Naples 8. C.1100 –rediscovery of Justinian’s Roman law code (lost since c.600) o = rediscovery of jurisprudence i.e. rational system of law 9. 12th c. – est. University at Bologna (Italy) to study law; o Europe’s first lawyers 10. Why did anyone care about Roman law?
