Jeffrey Cox In the essay “Appearances” written by John Berger he states “That all photographs are  ambiguous”.  “Yet often this ambiguity is not obvious, for as soon as a photographs are used  with words, they produce together an effect of certainty, even a dogmatic assertion” is another  quote from the essay. Berger proves this by adding into his essay pictures with short and long  quotes. The only exception is if the person has a past with the person or a personal history of
