-1DNC 112C Response #2 10/25/07 The Semester So Far When I began Intermediate Ballet this semester I found myself wondering if I had chosen the wrong class. I was completely out of shape and was initially intimidated by the combinations and other dancers. I quickly discovered, however, that our instructor was very interested in our progression as a group. It was obvious that he was aware of our weaknesses and subsequently designed his barre and center exercises to strengthen and challenge us. I especially enjoyed the first unit of class because we repeated the same combinations during every class. The repetition, rather than forcing me to concentrate on new, complicated patterns, gave me a chance to focus on my confused muscles and it gave me time to feel the music again. Once I felt that my muscles were finally responsive to ballet again, the second unit came I was challenged with combinations that varied in style, speed, and goal. I appreciate when exercises are broken down to help students let go of tension and
