Lecture 22 Parietal cortex: attention orientation of the body in the world --inputs from visual auditory and somatosensory cortex Right Parietal Deficit: -- sensory neglect: deny existence of portions of the left side of visual space --also deny that anything is wrong or unusual Localization of lesion site in 8 patiens with sensory neglect: -shows that most of it is in the caudal right parietal lobe NOT SEEN WITH LEFT PARIETAL LOBE! - the right parietal lobe covers function in both the right and the left side -but the left parietal lobe covers only the right side ---so when right is severed, can only use left lobe which only covers right side Selective attention in monkeys --juice rewards for attending target --when given more juice, pay more attention and more neural firing Agnosia: - -higher order perceptual deficit -simultanagnosia: difficulty recognizing complex visual patterns with multiple parts though each part can be recognized when presented alone Prosopagnosia: --inability to recognize faces
