Reagan Bleasdell Modern Philosophy Weekly Writing #3 Difficulties of Discourse Section 8 In the Monadology, Leibniz tries to form the idea of a monad, which is a simple substance or the base unit of all matter. In the first few sections of the discourse, Leibniz establishes that these monads are not composed of parts, that they must exist since there are aggregates, that they are not extendable and not divisible, and that they can only exist by creation and only be destroyed by annihilation. In the seventh section, Leibniz finds that there is no way to alter or transpose anything in or on a monad because it has no parts which can be added, removed, or exchanged.
