Week 2 textbook assignment Review Questions: 1. a. Data—Raw information that has not yet been processed to reveal it’s meaning to the end user. b. Field—A character or group of characters (alphabetic or numeric) that defines a characteristic of a person, place, or thing. For example, a person’s Social Security number, address, phone number, and bank balance all constitute fields. c. Record—A collection of related (logically connected) fields. d. File—A named collection of related records. 3. Data independence – when it is possible to make changes to data storage characteristics without affecting the application’s ability to access the data. Independent data is not tied to the file system and how it is stored. 5. Structural independence – when it is possible to make changes in the file structure without affecting the application’s ability to access the data. This allows you to make changes to the database without alter the data. Data integrity is one of the most important concerns when managing a database. 6.
