Digital Circuit Design with Gates Circuit Design Considerations Design in Positive Logic Notation Circuit Design Considerations Any Boolean expression can be implemented using only 1. AND gates and inverters 2. OR gates and inverters 3. NAND gates 4. NOR gates. But the variety of gates available gives us flexibility in design. Conceptually, it is easiest to design with AND, OR gates and inverters, but we need to be able to design with any type of gate: ¾ NAND and NOR gates are simpler in their internal construction and are faster than AND and OR gates. ¾ Since IC chips contain multiple gates, some unused gates may be available. These should be considered before adding more IC’s. Logic diagrams should use gate representations which lead to clear circuit diagrams.
